Don’t forget the flea control!
Fleas are often infected with the larvae of the Tapeworm, which can be transferred to your dog by swallowing the flea while grooming. In order to control worms, you also need to control fleas. A spot-on treatment is the easiest way to protect your dog – but you may also need one that kills flea larvae in your pet's surroundings, to effectively break the flea lifecycle.
If you don’t control a flea problem at the same time as worming, your dog is almost certain to be re-infected.

Spirocerca Lupi
Spirocerca lupi is an internal parasite which nests in the oesophagus of your dog and causes the disease Spirocercosis - a very serious disease which can ultimately lead to death.
S.Lupi is contracted when your dog ingests either the intermediate host (dung beetles) or the paratentic host (birds, rats, lizards and frogs.) The parasitic larvae then travel to your dogs stomach and migrate through the stomach wall to the aorta. After further development in the aorta, the young adults migrate to your dogs oesophagus wall, forming nodules.
The nodules can takes months before reaching a size where it affects your dog's health. S.Lupi is therefore know as the "silent killer" as the infection is already in an advanced stage by the time pet owners notice any health issues.
Dogs may display the following symptoms: Coughing or gagging, regurgitation, weight loss, salivation, fever, vomiting, breathing difficulties, problems swallowing and joint pain.
If you suspect that your dog might have S.Lupi please contact your veterinarian about diagnosis and frequency of Milbemax treatment.
